Happy New Year!!
Sure has been a long time since I have posted (obviously). We moved during November. So needless to say our holidays were very hectic.
We are finally feeling like we are living here and not on vacation. I have enjoyed this very mild weather here in Northern Idaho. I am looking foward to the snow though. Coming from the high desert in Southern California we were looking foward to a white Christmas. We didnt get it though, but that is ok. Our family is healthy and very happy. That accounts for a lot.
We have been busy with school, looking after horses and searching for one for my daughter. That is taking up our Saturdays. I cannot wait till it is over and she has one here. LOL It is important to go see them of course. She will be joining the 4-H up here so she will need one of her own. She has one she is using now, but it is not the same.

For sewing machines. I am looking for a machine that will be easy to use. I need it for clothing and possible quilting. I just need a basic machine. I have a fancy embroidery machine that of course can do all that, but it is big and slightly heavy. I need something that will not take up to much room and is light to carry. I have come to two machines a Brother (which I have) and a Baby Loc (which I know that Brother now manufactures).

I really like the Baby Loc. I have seen this in use and is what I am looking for. But I want to make sure that it is the right one for me. So I am giving my self another option. The Brother.

I have been window shopping around lately and came across this site, Belle Blanc. The clothing is great for the women who have put on a couple of unwanted pounds (like me). The clothing helps soften the problem areas. Very nice clothing for traveling or just hanging out at the beach. Which, I think, was the reason for her to create this line. The only problem I find....they are located in Oregon. LOL.

A Cold....

That is just frustrating. I am not sick enough for laying on the couch all day and i am not just bothered. I feel well enough to do things around the house, then when I am done I am exhausted. I lay down and rest to build my strength then go about my business again.
Well the seedlings are doing good. A couple of the onions are laying down. Not to sure why. But those are the only problems so far.
Well that is my update for the week. Not much going on. Have a great week.

Not much new going on around here. Just a bit of early spring cleaning. The weather has been in the mid 70's for a couple of days now and its been wonderful!
We have started digging up four of the eight garden beds we are going to plant and have started the seeds. I think we are a little behind on this stuff. But I do have a good excuse....I am finally planting our first garden! they say to start off small, but I am not really doing that. With the economy the way it is and gas prices going up and that causing everything else to go up; we are hopefully going to have a lot of veggies soon. YAY!
We have started:

orange and red bell peppers
wild strawberries
amish paste tomatoes
goldman's italian-american tomato
natures riddle tomato
Chichiquelite Huckleberry
and Cabbage

I bought most of my seeds from Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds and some from Seed Savers Exchange. We are so excited about our veggie garden. I cant wait to share pics with you all.

Cleaning Up....

My computer! I had files that needed organizing. Wow is is easier to find things now. LOL I hadn't realized the clutter on this thing. I even deleted things that I haven't used in a couple of years. I had no idea they were there. Well needless to say I feel better when it comes to looking things up on my computer.

Now on to my spare room. I have things that need to go. Since it feels like spring, I will do some spring cleaning to day. I have books that I really have no idea what to do with. They need to go. Especially when I will be buying some more books for this coming year. I even have a couple of monitors and a couple of printers. Yikes! Getting rid of those are my hubby's job. (smile)

Life Getting Interesting....

Not this week. We received some bittersweet news. My DH did not get the job he applied for, but that is not hampering our desire to move to Idaho. There are still a couple of jobs for him to put in for. That will hopefully get us up there sometime this year.
I have been window shopping of late. I am looking for next years school supplies and curriculum. I really found the Vision Forums The History of Christianity and Western Civilization very interesting. That may be something I will use. I am not too sure if this should be a jr. high curriculum. It looks like a high school thing. But right now I know that we will be doing a more in depth study our civil rights and the birth of our country. I also have been looking into Answers in Genesis for science. I love shopping for curriculum! DD is really good at being self motivated and doing school work on her own. So I was also looking into Switched on Schoolhouse for History and science also. I will also add an elective. I think I will let her pick that out.

Life: Getting Interesting?

Not much new around here. School is going well. We are getting ready for the spring. Though it does feel like it is here already.

We have been enjoying the weather. Weed pulling has begun and we are slowing getting rocks out of the way for our garden plot. I have planned out my garden and will be getting orders in here soon. I need to get going on my plants, I will be able to plant here soon.

Seems like the same ol' stuff. The only thing of interest is that my husband has applied for a couple of jobs one in WA and another in ID. We are very excited to see what will happen. We have talked about moving for 7 years. (Yes I have been counting! lol). Hopefully we will find out soon if we will be moving. I have never been so excited in all my years. Which to some is not all that long. ;-)

We have yammered on about our dreams and where the suitable place would be for so long now that it seems to be a dream that he even applied. It is a big step that my DH took. He is Mr. Stable (and I love that about him) and he was very comfortable where he is now. The company has been a good one, but Hubby knows that it is time to move on and that is why he took the steps he has taken. This has made me one giddy lady!

Cleaning up and Rearranging

I have started this new year with reorganizing my home. Purging things that are not being used. Recycling things that should be used.

I have started with our linen closet. Starting there will help with my kitchen space. We use the linen closet for more that just linens since our home is small. Half is now the linen closet with the sheets blankets and towels. The other half is for my big appliances. The roaster, crockpot, big stockpot, griddle and rice cooker all fit in there with room to spare. That had freed up counter space and room in some of my cabinets in the kitchen. Whoppee!!

Christmas

As my small family does every year, we had our Christmas morning on Christmas Eve. It was so fun seeing our darling girl so happy with what she received. As a parent I think Christmas is much more fun than when I was a child. To give and see the joy on others faces is just so pleasing.

We celebrate this way because come Christmas morning we are rushing around, getting ready for the day to come. But fortunately this year we had more time to relax and play with our new toys. Yay! Our potluck dish was sweet potatoes. We mashed them this year and they were great. Dinner was great my aunt made a turkey and ham. We had mashed potatoes, veggies, salads and of course cranberry sauce.

We had a pleasant time!

Merry Christmas! I hope these past weeks have found all of you in good health. We have been busy with a couple of birthdays and getting ready for Christmas. I have only three more people to shop for and a few candy supplies to make and I am good for the holiday.
I had planned on making some organic candy canes (colored form beet juice) from MaryJanes Farm magazine, but time and money have been spent. I was hoping to have some spared for a Silpat and some heat resistant neoprene or silicone gloves, but I just couldn't resist some extra things for my daughter. I need the silpat for cooling down the candy and the gloves (obviously) to protect my hands. She has you pour the syrup in the middle of the silpat while you quickly lift the four corners keep in the middle to cool.
If you are interested in a organic, more self sufficient and a slower, back to earth (I mean knowing where your food comes from) way of life and you haven't seen the MaryJanes Farm Magazine (It is not from a christian viewpoint) I encourage you to check it out. I sure enjoy the crafts, gardening, recipes and homesteading articles they have.
Later on this week I hope to have time to make Tasha Tudor's Dundee Cake. It reminds me of a fruit cake. Over at the Corgyncombe Courant Susan and Diane make it look very festive and delicious. I decided to try it for a Christmas Eve Tea for me and my daughter.

We are back from our week trip to the Sierra Nevada Mountians. We had a blast. This was our first family vacation by ourselves. That is without visiting or traveling with any other family members. It was so relaxing! My Darling Hubby found a nice house to rent in Dunlap. It was clean, homey and very pretty. I love golden hills splattered with oak trees. It was full of wildlife and beauty.

We went to Kings Canyon first and that I have to say was my favorite area. So many prettystops to take pictures.

We stopped at Boyden Cavern and took a tour of the cave. It has some pretty formations and crystals growing on them.

We stopped by Grizzly Falls, Cedar Grove, Zumwalt Meadow and Roads End. When we came to Roads End we decided to hike up to Mist Falls. We walked through flat forested areas, to winding, hilly, rocky forested paths. We also got to a place that was steep and on a rock that was bare so the sun was very intense. Then up a steeper part of forest and Phew! your there. It was about a 10 mile round trip hike. We had the best time.

Day two of exercising. I did it! I know that it seems small, but that is good for me. I am taking it a day at a time. That way I will not overwhelm myself of my plans. I tend to look at everything and want everything to be done now. Then I get burnt out. So my plans consist of reading the word and taking it a day at a time.

Feeling Good!

Ok so I know that physical exercise is good for you. I also know how good it is for you to add a lot more veggies to your diet is. And I know that both together is excellent for your over all well being. But, if I was truly honest with you I am going to have to admit that, "I hate to exercise!" Is anyone with me on that? LOL
Today I have decided to add exercise to my daily routine. I woke up earlier to do this. And I have to say that I am feeling really good right know. It has been an hour since I have exercised and I have finished cleaning my kitchen, vacuuming the carpets, cleaned out the cat liter box (yuck), took out the trash and brought the cans back from the curb. Now I know that it does not seem like much, but for someone who has no energy it is a big thing.
I have already changed our eating habits and lost weight with that during the last year and a half. Which was good, but I came to a plateau. I went for a check up at the Dr.s and to my surprise I have a few things that are indicators of me being a good candidate for heart disease. I don't want it. So here I go with exercising. The thing that I hate. But I love my family more than anything and want to be around for the blessings (God will hopefully give us) in the years to come. I will not be accused of not taking care of the things God has already blessed me with. How about you?

Hiking?

My husband finally took us up to the mountains on a hike. It was a short one. Considering that I am very out of shape and was desiring to do this. lol It was just beautiful. We parked and followed a trail that leads to a place called Grassy Hollow. I was in awe of the Lord's creation.
The weather on Sunday was in the high 70's there and that made for a wonderful hike. My dearest daughter had a harder time of it than I did. She is just not used to being out with nature. She is such a city girl. We did decide as a family we need to do that more often. Especially since the weather is getting cooler.
Our dog thought this was heaven on earth. LOL He is so much fun. He likes to explore everything. He makes a good buddy for my darling husband. DH likes to explore more than I and dearest do. I think that is another of the differences in some males and females. I like to stay on the path that is safe and recommended. While Dh likes to blaze his own. I don't think I could cut an actual hike. Though if I was more prepared for such things, it could be tempted.

Monday

Today starts the second week of school. So far.... so good. Last week went off without a hitch, which was really nice. Sixth grade, I think, will be a fun year.
Art right now seems to be a favorite. She likes to draw and is pretty good at it. She also enjoys looking at other peoples illustrations. I have shown her Tasha Tudor and Beatrix Potter so far. I will be adding more illustrators in the coming months. I hope that she sticks to it. She seems to have some talent. I don't want to over exaggerate. I am a total optimist and I give her an awful amount of praise. LOL
Darling Daughter has grown spiritually and in maturity in the last six months. It has been such a joy to see her grow. She was baptised on August 22. I was so thrilled that she stood up and took that stand. I cannot thank God enough for a girl who is so on fire for Him. It is so His doing and not my own.
Today also starts the first day with NO Sugar. I am trying to cut out refined sugar for a month. I need to kick start my metabolism. I am at a plateau at the moment. I lose 20 lbs. and hit a brick wall. So no sugar and more exercise will be added to my routine. Oh, joy!

Snack Time!

I have to say that the bread baking in my oven is the best smell. I really enjoy baking bread. I do not knead by hand, I have a mixer for that. But the process gives me an overwhelming satisfaction.
Today is Tasha Tudor day. So I am sharing one of my favorite print of hers. I just love the feeling of warmth I get from this picture and of love. The corgi's are of course really adorable. A woman that wasn't full of warmth and love would not let those two dogs into her kitchen. LOL
For celebrating I have been trying to make food by scratch and find entertainment by going outside for a walk or read a book. I am going to buy (hopefully) my first Tasha Tudor book, later on today. I hope to do some sort of craft time permitting.

What a beautiful day it is here in the So. Calf. high desert. We, of course, have a nice wind blowing it is cooler than it has been in about 2 weeks. The sky is blue and I am smelling our oatmeal with cinnamon breakfast. Hopefully I don't burn this like I did with dinner last night. lol

It is so embarrassing to admit that I burned dinner. I was just heating up left over spaghetti for dinner, no big deal, when I decided to get on the computer "real" quick. Next thing I know my darling husband is yelling, "Is something burning?" Oh My Goodness! Our Dinner! Yeah, we ended up with good ol' bean and cheese burritos. They always seem to save the day. I need to pay more attention or at least not get on the computer when I am cooking with out a timer.

What a lazy day! I was all by myself and decided to watch some T.V. You know the shows you like to watch without the interruption of comments from the peanut gallery and "Mom I need" comments. It was nice.
Now I did do some laundry, dishes, and picked some things up. I also, made some bread. But this was my day and I relaxed. Ahhhh!

What To Do!

We have taken the next two weeks off of school. And I really do not know what to do with my new found freedom. LOL
I have, however, decided to catch up on my Sisterhood Badges. I have join the MaryJanes Farm Sisterhood. I really enjoy it. Right now I am working on my first two beginner Cleaning up badges. I just finished up the finishing touches on my Mission statement for using Green cleaning products in my home. It is great finally finishing this badge. I have a sense of accomplishment I have been missing for a while.
Now I know that I really do not need a badge to tell me that I am accomplishing things in my home, but it is nice anyway. I have been feeling really stuck in my homesteading pursuits. So this is just slowing me down and giving me perspective. I have read somewhere that the "Sisterhood" is like Girl Scouts, but for Women. It is really fun and I enjoy it.

As I sit eating my grapefruit this morning. I decieded to open up all my windows to let in all the cool, fresh air. The house is quiet. I am the only one awake at the moment. Hubby left for work a few hours ago. And I have a sweet quiet peace with the whispers of creation.

It is just beautiful here lately. We have nice cool breezes to cool down the big, bright sun beating on us. It is also nice to be able to open up my windows and get some nice fresh air in the house. I couldn't stand the stale air being circulated by the heater. Yuck! So on the first warm day a couple of weeks back all the windows flew open and we had fresh air flowing. It was just wonderful!

This past week I went to the doctors and he confirmed my suspicions of having IBS. Oh the horror of it all!! lol I have to, in the next two weeks, be on a elimination diet. After the two weeks I will be able to add things back to my diet, except for dairy and wheat. I will give you the quick version of what I can't eat, which is, no dairy (I am lactose intolerant anyway) including eggs, I will be sugar and gluten free (so no wheat), no corn, peanuts or peanut butter, no soy products, no pork , red meat, processed meat (no problem) or sausages and no oranges. So needless to say I have lost 4 pounds already. LOL Which is just great. I have added raw vegetables to my diet that I have never eaten. I am having fun experimenting with food.

I have felt so much better and have a greater amount of energy. I never thought that I could do this diet, but it is easy. It would be easier if I had a garden out back and a river to fish. (my dream) I am thinking of getting herb pots and a few large pots for some tomatoes. That will be a start.

I have had such a time getting my compost started. I think it needs more attention that what I am giving it. So starting today I will love it everyday. My problem is that it keeps drying out. But really I am lost. I have no idea what I am doing. ;-)

Day of Rest

We took this literally today. Hubby ended up with some kind of allergy after he was outside working. His poor lip swelled up. He took an antihistamine which helped a lot, but put him in sleep mode for the rest of the day. Poor guy!

All this relaxing put me in crochet mode. I am almost finished with my shawl. I can't wait. The pattern I am using is in the fall Interweave Crochet magazine. It kind of is getting too late for me to use it. But if I can get it done this week I will have it for Easter. I will put a picture of it on here so you can see it.(Katie ;-)

My next sewing project will be a skirt. I have been wanting to get this done for quiet a while, but I am not wanting to cut up the pattern at the size I am at right now. Ha! I know that sounds silly but I am losing wait slowly but surely. I should just do it. We will see.

Well during all the resting today we had a great day of eating. LOL We woke up and hubby made gluten free pancakes (Bobs Red Mill.) I loved them. Hubby and daughter did not. They said that they had a funny taste. For lunch we had veggie wraps. Avocado, cucumber, alfalfa sprouts, green onions and cream cheese spread on the wrap (or pita). Then I added olive oil, red wine vinegar (balsamic), salt and pepper to taste. It was delicious! And for dinner we had steak, baked potato and green beans. Yummy! It would have been better with a homemade pie, but I didn't have the fruit for it. Bummer.

It was a beautiful, clear, warm, and breezy day. Just beautiful!

Oh My Word!

My little break turned into a 7 month one. I was very busy. We finished schooling in May which was really a blessing. We took a well need lets play and swim till our hearts content. Then we celebrated Madison's 10th birthday in June. That was a lot of fun for her. Grandma Julie rented a bounce house for her. She was in that thing for most of the time.
In July we went to Idaho for vacation and my sisters wedding. That was a very busy and fun trip. During that trip our driver's side window was busted. No problem we got that fixed and on that same day we found out our house was flooded. Problem!? That was a nice coming home present. LOL! We have new flooring now and the furniture is on its way. I really cannot complain. Everything was fixed.
September comes and we start school again. It is going...well its going. Madison is involved with basketball and her first game is tonight about 2 hours away. OUCH! But that is a rare occurance.
We took a second vacation to Idaho for Christmas. That was a great time of fellowship and family fun. I miss my sisters terribly. It was nice to be with them. And of course my parents. My dd and mom have a really close relationship. Even when they live days apart. It is very special. I have failed to say that the first day of our vacation our patio roof/cover blew off and flew over our house and landed in the front yard. LOL. I am thinking we should not be leaving for long periods of time for a while.
Well that is some of my 2009 memories. I hope to have many more in 2010. Happy New Year to you all and may God bless your Year.

I am so technology illiterate, it is ridiculous. I am not too sure why the pictures came out so small. But that is just how things roll around here at times. LOL

Here are the pictures that I wanted to post a few days back. I painted these candles sticks the color Jade. They have cute little tear drops hanging from the ends of the leaves. I love them.

I got the idea of the color from Kim at Daisy Cottage. She had just painted a chandelier this color. I thought it was just the bees knees. LOL She has such a lovely place. I sure enjoy visiting.

I have been busy! I also went to take picture of some things I have been working on, but I only took 2 pictures and card flashed full and then the battery died. LOL Just my luck!

I was visiting Daisy Cottage a while back and Kim had shared with her readers the paint she used to paint her chandelier. I took one look at the color and it was love at first sight. I knew right then and there that was the color I was missing in my color scheme. My dilemma.....What should I paint?!! Well, I decided that my candle sticks needed a face lift. So I painted them. At one time they were distressed white, a shabby chic thang going on. Now they are....Jade.
I was going to show you picture, but I sure cannot. I cannot figure out where I put the pictures. They used to go directly to my folder, but now....AGHHHHH!!!
I will get them later, when hubby is home and can help.

I finished the stuffed Cat for my dd. She was so excited about her hand made doll. I used some old fabric. I think it is from the 60's. It started to unravel on me at the seam. But I did some ugly stitching on it and it is fine. Hand sewing is something I need to work on....a lot! I am still working on the bunny for my nephew. I need to stuff it and put the face on. I think it will be OK. I got one ear shorter than the other. I was juggling a lot that day. Didn't think I was so out of it. I am not too please with that. So I will see what he looks like when I am finished. If he is OK than I will be sending it to my sis.
That right now is all that is happening here. I need to post some pics of my disasters....Oh I mean creations.

Boy time sure passes when you are busy. We have been schooling hard here. I am also going to be selling some curriculum, so I need to get it all in order and figure out how much I am going to be selling it for.
I have been improving the tortoise habitat, which included planting native wild flowers for him to eat. And we have been weeding. (which is a chore, because we are in the desert and that is all we have.lol) Dino does eat the weeds, but we have more weeds than we can eat.
I have been sewing. I made knickers, and I am still working on aprons. I really need to get those done. I have taught myself to crochet (with a little help from my friend). I have been working on a scarf, with hexagons. I am doing thread crochet. I bought a book from MaryJanes Farm called the Stiching Room. I really like it a lot. That is where I got the pattern for the scarf. I am needing to make 34 of the hexagons then sew them together.
I also have been looking for fabric for my curtains. I am wanting to cover those windows now. I went with a friend to L.A. fashion district to look around and found fabric for $1 a yard. YIPEEE! Now I need to choose a color.
My sister's wedding is coming up in July. I told her I would make the ring bearers pillow. So that is another project that is on my list. Martha Stewart has helped out a bunch in this area. I still need to decide what I am going to go with. Of course mine will be an original, but Martha has some good ideas.

Time sure flies by when you are busy. I have been busy grading, doing the monthly report and the semester report card. It is finished and I am now resting in God's presence. I should have been before that, but I had worked myself up in such a state that a break down had to bring me to my senses. Oh bother! My stubbornness always gets the better of me.

We have had such lovely weather lately that the birds, plants and trees think it is spring and are starting to bud. The same thing happened last year. Then we have cold weather again and things freeze. I hope that my lilac will be OK this year. I did not mulch it, because we do not usually have ridged weather. But it did snow and now I am wondering if it is dead. Well I will find out soon enough.

I have been trying to learn to crochet (just a scarf). I am not really sure if I like it just yet. I get to frustrated with it. Sometimes I wonder why I want to bother learning. Then I look at the beautiful things I could make with it and think I could make that. I think I should stick with my sewing. lol

We found this recipe on Ina Garten's (Barefoot Contessa) website. We Love It! We like to keep our New Year's simple and fun for our daughter. I do have to add, this is not your normal Mac and Cheese. It is kicked up a bit for the grown up. YUMMY!

Mac and Cheese
Kosher salt
Vegetable oil
1 pound elbow macaroni or cavatappi
1 quart milk
8 tablespoons (1 stick) unsalted butter, divided 1/2 cup
All-purpose flour
12 ounces Gruyere, grated (4 cups)
8 ounces extra-sharp Cheddar, grated (2 cups)
1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
3/4 pound fresh tomatoes (4 small)
1 1/2 cups fresh white bread crumbs (5 slices, crusts removed)
Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.
Drizzle oil into a large pot of boiling salted water. Add the macaroni and cook according to the directions on the package, 6 to 8 minutes. Drain well.
Meanwhile, heat the milk in a small saucepan, but don't boil it. Melt 6 tablespoons of butter in a large (4-quart) pot and add the flour. Cook over low heat for 2 minutes, stirring with a whisk. While whisking, add the hot milk and cook for a minute or two more, until thickened and smooth. Off the heat, add the Gruyere, Cheddar, 1 tablespoon salt, pepper, and nutmeg. Add the cooked macaroni and stir well. Pour into a 3-quart baking dish.
Slice the tomatoes and arrange on top. Melt the remaining 2 tablespoons of butter, combine them with the fresh bread crumbs, and sprinkle on the top. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until the sauce is bubbly and the macaroni is browned on the top.

Outside my window...it is cloudy, windy, and a cool 47 degrees. It is also sprinkling here and there.

I am thinking...that I need to dig out my tortoise. I am worried about him with all this melting snow and rain.

Around the house...it is somewhat organized, the kitchen is clean, bathrooms are clean, and the floor will be sometime today.

Snow Much Fun!

We have been enjoying the last two days. I feel like a kid again with all the sledding and snow ball fighting. LOL But unfortunately my body is feeling its age. AAACH!

We ended up with about 9 1/2 inches of snow. I could not believe it. I have lived here for 11 years and it never snowed that much. But I heard the record is 17 inches which I wouldn't complain about if that happened. :-)

The dogs had a great time out in it. I could not keep them in the house. They ate the snow, played in the snow, rolled around in the snow, laid in the snow and my male dog had to mark every thing. Fortunately I think he ran out of water and stopped peeing on everything. Goofy dog!

Of course being a homeschooler, we did not have a school day. I did make her do two subjects. I do not want to get behind. I have a plan that will not be compromised. LOL I do roll with the punches though. That is why she only had two subjects instead of our full day.

We Have Snow

It really does snow (every once in awhile) in Southern California. LOL No we are not in the mountains. We live in the high desert and it has been snowing since 6:50 (that I know of) this morning. I really, really wanted to show you all pictures. But for some reason they are not downloading. I will have to wait for hubby to get home.
What I find funny is that we still have yellow and green leaves on our tree. We have had such a warm Autumn that the trees are all upset and behind. Normally it is chilly and the trees are grey skeletons. And now we have snow and leaves still on the trees. Weird!

Apple Pomegranate Gellies

1 cup grated Granny Smith apple
1/2 cup Plus 2 tablespoons pomegranate juice, divided
2 cups sugar
2 (0.25 ounce) envelopes unflavored gelatin
3 tablespoons apple juice
*Sugar for coating

1. Spray an 8-inch square pan with nonstick cooking spray, and set aside.
2. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine the grated apple, 1/2 cup pomegranate juice, and sugar. Bring to a boil; cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly. Reduce heat to low, and simmer for 30 minuets, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat.
3. In a small bowl, combine the gelatin, remaining pomegranate juice, and apple juice. Add to apple mixture, stirring constantly until gelatin is dissolved.
4. Pour into the prepared pan; refrigerate for 8 hours, or overnight.
5. Using a sharp, oiled knife, cut prepared gelatin into 64 (1-inch) squares. Roll gellies in sugar to coat.
Gellies can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 weeks.
*Granulated sugar, confectioners' sugar, or colored sanding sugar may be used.

FOR TODAY ...

Outside my window...My Tree still has leaves, but now most of them are yellow and on the grass. It is about 40 something degrees and raining. Which is such a blessing here.

I am thinking...That I hope it will keep raining tonight, then maybe we will get some snow. I also cannot wait to decorate the tree.

I am thankful for...This rain, the health of all family members and my Savior's grace and mercy.

From the learning rooms...Math, Reading, English, Spelling, and Science. And if all goes well today we will have a art lesson.

From the kitchen...nothing is going on there right now. But bread will be baking in a couple of hours and spaghetti sauce will be bubbling away.

I am wearing...a blue T shirt and plaid pj bottoms and green Polk a dot socks lol I am running late today.

I am creating...well there are a bunch of things that I am wanting to create, but my printer is out of ink and I have to trace the patterns by hand. I am going to make a purse, a stuffed animal (for nephew b-day) and a stuffed doll for Madie.

I am going...to the grocery store and that will probably be it.

I am reading...the book of Hebrews and Daniel is almost finished. I am also reading Northanger Abbey by Jane Austen

I am hoping...that I will be able to get the romance movie collection from Costco.

Family Prayers: I do not think we do this well. Of course we pray at meal time. Sometimes we pray before school. Grade D-

Church: We really like our church. It is a second home to us. Madison just had the Christmas choir done this weekend. Grade A+

Household routines: OK for the family. I of course get an A+. LOL Things are a little messy here. But the laundry is maintained. YES! Grade B

Meal Preparation: Not very good this last week. We at out a lot. Very disgusting. I hate fast food. Grade C

"Fruit of the Spirit" : What I should be working on is goodness. I need a lot of help with this at this time of year. I have been shaping my thoughts and actions toward people in a positive manner. God is blessing me in this. I will give myself a B-. I still have room for improvement.

FOR TODAY December 9, 2008...

Outside my window... the wind is blowing and it is a cool (or warm depending on where you live) 50 something degrees. The leaves that are golden and green are finally falling off the tree and peppering our grass with color.

I am thinking...that the weather is so crazy this year.

I am thankful for...Jesus Christ coming down from heaven to be our High Priest and perfect sacrifice.

From the learning rooms...same old subjects, math, reading, English, spelling, and science. WE also have art from time to time.

From the kitchen...I will be baking bread and making dinner. I think we will have roasted chicken with asparagus.

I am wearing...lilac colored knit pants and a white V-neck shirt with warm red and green stripped socks. LOL

I am creating...nothing at the moment, but I will be starting on a ring bearers pillow for my sister Katie.

I am going...to bible study tonight we are studying Hebrews.

I am reading...Hebrews and Daniel.

I am hoping...that I can get my Christ mas shopping done this weekend.

I am hearing...quiet. Madie is doing her work.

Around the house...laundry always needs done, bath rooms will be done today. On the outside the lights are up and beautifully done.

FOR TODAY ...

Outside my window...we have a cool breeze blowing, sunny and I still have very green leaves on my tree. I am amazed at how it is now November and the weather is cool, not cold like it should be.

I am thinking...that it would be really nice to give my body a rest and go lay down. I am not feeling well.

I am thankful for...the Bible, hubby and a nice warm bed.

From the learning rooms...we didn't do much today since I am not feeling well. We did a lesson of reading, English and math.

From the kitchen...there will be banana bread baking and meatloaf heating up.

I am wearing...a pink long sleeve shirt with grey knit pants and pink soft socks.

I am creating...a scarf for my Madie. She picked out the yarn. And for a beginning crocheter I am having a tad bit of difficulty.

Church: We went and really enjoyed it. Pastor Dennis talked about biblical marriage. It was very powerful. Boo enjoyed her Sunday school class they talked about Isaac and his life. A

Meal Preparation: I am slacking this week, but right now I have a huge pot of spaghetti sauce simmering and will be canning that tonight. And I also have some ground bison I am defrosting for some taco meat. B-

Household routines: I am catching up on laundry, but I have not cleaned my floors. B

Family Time: We haven't set time for this, this week. We are a tad bit busy. But we get to see each other for dinner and the places we go are always together. "C

Homeschooling: Has been a challenge this week. Boo is also under the weather with a sore throat. I am thinking it is not as bad as she wants it to be.

For Today...
Outside my window...the wind is blowing softly, I hear the rustling leaves and the shade is beckoning to me to sit in it.
I am thinking.... that it was real nice smelling my jasmine that I forgot I had. This year is the first year that it bloomed. The weather has be perfect for it.
From the learning room.... we were learing about Chirstopher Columbus and Marco Polo. This week I haven't figured it out. I just might pick out a good classic literature book to read.
I am thankful for....everything. God has been good to us and has blessed us with a loving family, good friends and of course the job and the house that we have.
From the kitchen.... Right now nothing, but in awhile there will be Lentil Chili cooking.
I am wearing....grey knit pants with at pink shirt and of course bear feet.

For Today...

Outside my window....the hard, cold wind blows, yellow leaves off my tree. Clear blue skies welcome all the birds to flutter about.

I am thinking.... that my earlier post of Peppermint Scones could be a tad bit early.

From the learning room.... we did a short study on Christopher Columbus and that was school today.

I am thankful for.... the school we are involved in. They have such neat children and parents involved that it is such a joy to go to co-ops and get together with them.

From the kitchen...Bolognese is reheating for lunch. It was a new recipe and very delicious.

I am wearing.... brown lounge pants with a tan shirt and sweater. I am actually wearing socks on my feet.

I am reading... my bible, and Ball Blue Book of Preserving

I am hoping... that we have a nice cold winter. Maybe we will get some snow for a day! And to make it to Oak Glen to pick apples.

I am hearing.... my wind chimes, the wind blowing and my dd's choir music.

White Chocolate Peppermint Scones

2 cups all-purpose flour

1/2 cup plus 1 tblspn sugar, divided

1 tsp baking powder

1/2 tsp baking soda

1/2 tsp salt

6 tblspn chilled unsalted butter, diced

3/4 cup white chocolate morsels

1/2 cup peppermint baking chips

3/4 cup chilled buttermilk

1 large egg yolk

1 tsp French vanilla extract

1/2 tsp peppermint extract

Candy Cane Cream (recipe follows)

1. preheat oven to 400 degrees. Lightly spray a baking sheet with nonstick spray containing flour.

2. In a large bowl, sift together flour, 1/3 cup sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Add butter and, using hands, combine until butter is reduced to size of coarse crumbs, stir in white chocolate morsel's and peppermint baking chips.

3. In small bowl, whisk together buttermilk, egg yolk, French vanilla extract, and peppermint extract, add butter milk mixture to dry ingredients; mix until dough comes together in moist clumps. Gather dough into a ball and knead for 2 to 3 turns. Place on a lightly floured surface and pat to about 1/2-inch thickness.

4. Using a 4-inch Christmas tree cutter, cut scones. Transfer to prepared baking sheet, spacing 1 inch apart.

5. Lightly sprinkle scones with remaining tablespoon of sugar. Bake scones fro10 to 20 minutes, or until light golden brown. Serve with Candy Cane Cream, if desired.

Candy Cane Cream

3/4 cup heavy cream

1/4 cup candy cane, crushed

Garnish: mint leaves

In the bowl of an electric mixer, combine cream and crushed candy cane. Whip until medium peaks form. Garnish with mint leaf, if desired.

For Today...

Outside my Window...It is a nice cool morning, but it won't last long...the grass looks like it needs mowing. lol

I am thankful for... time spent with family... and that Grandma is doing well after her surgery.

From the kitchen... there will be the smell of coffee and eggs cooking.

I am creating... nothing right now... soon I hope I will be making a purse and a quilt for my nephew.

I am going... stir crazy...I am in need of some antique shopping. LOL

I am wearing... green shorts and a dark purple-ish shirt. I just woke up.

I am reading... nothing right now....just some mags like Romantic Homes, Victoria, Tea Time and some others.

I am hoping... to get my homeschool planning done this week. I have one subject left, then it is off to get all the supplies I need for science projects and what not

Around the house...dishes and laundry were ignored this weekend, but not on purpose.

Outside My Window...Partly cloudy, hot breeze and in the 90's.
I am thinking... That I am not ready for this heat that is coming.
I am thankful for... my friends. I have a great group of homeschooling women to fellowship with.
From the kitchen... the dishwasher is going, the oven is not working and hopefully the stove top will for dinner. If not I could use the dreaded microwave.
I am wearing... a white v-neck t-shirt and a Hawaiian print turquoise skort. I am barefoot.
I am creating...a clean calm cozy atmosphere in my home.
I am going... to go grocery shopping for a few things.
I am reading... the bible (always), but nothing else right now.
I am hoping... to have everything done that I have on my list for the week.
I am hearing... the a/c, dishwasher and a low TV show.
Around the house... things need to be picked up and I am going to rearrange furniture and nic naks.

Outside My Window... Hot, cloudless, still and sunny day! The nieghbors enjoying the coool shade of their big green leaved tree.

I am thinking... I cannot wait till autum.

I am thankful for... my daughter, hubby and just our life in general.

From the kitchen... dirty dishes that need to be done. (I ran out of dishwashing detergent) And I do not want to do them by hand. I do not feel good :-(

I am wearing... Green blue and white plaid lounge pants and a white tank top.

I am creating... Nothing today. I am sick.

I am going... to pick hubby up from work. That is it.

I am reading... the Makers Diet. I am just finishing it.

I am hoping... that we will have a cool summer. It doesn't look like it.

This is Dino, our desert tortoise! I think he is just great. Though all he does is wander around and eat. LOL His shell is about 12 long. And very healthy. He also has a voracious appetite.

I cannot believe I am in the Southern Californian high desert. Cool Breezes, grey clouds in the sky, and rain! I love it. It sure is a break from the 100 degree hear we had. Yuck! We have had crazy weather with it. In Moreno Valley (about an hour away) they had about three little tornadoes. One did some damage and went over the freeway and blew over a big rig. Just crazy!
I received some good news yesterday. My mom is to fly out on Tuesday to visit. We are so excited. The last time I saw my mom she was bloated, lying in a hospital, kind of in and out. I am so blessed I got to see her after she woke up. She hadn't realized at the time she was out of it for a week. So I have planned some antique shopping or window shopping! I love it!

Outside My Window... our tree is blowing in the wind, the blue sky behind it. Not a cloud in the sky

I am thinking... that it would be wonderful to go sit in the cool shade under that wide branched tree

I am thankful for... for my small cozy home.

From the kitchen... I smell the spices of our chicken tacos

I am wearing... white shorts and a multi colored shirt with my favorite colors of coral, turqouise, lime green, blues, reds, yellows. Very cool!

I am creating... A quilt for my brand new gorgeous nephew, Austen.

I am going... to go make up my grocery list.

I am reading... The Last Dance but not the Last Song by Renee Bondi

I am hoping... that my house will be filled with childrens laughter.

I am hearing... the noise of a cartoon, Curious George.LOL

Around the house... things are looking good. Outside, the weeds have been pulled up in part of our back yard, the pool is clean and our dog has finally stopped marking up our patio! Yeah!
Inside, kitchen is cleaned up, the scent of roses is in the air and laundry still needs to be done.

One of my favorite things... is the smell and feel of clean laundry.

A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week: Visit a antique store for some items for the kitchen, look for paddock boots for darling daughter, finish up my book and do the grocery shopping.

Quite Awhile

It has been quite awhile since I posted last. Nothing much has changed. We are still schooling and have a great time doing so. I cannot believe this year is almost over. It just seemed to fly by. Little darling is sure asserting her independence. At least for an 8 year old. She has changed quiet a bit this past year. I so enjoy her. She is our joy!

I have been working on my tortoise habitat. His name is Dino. We just brought him home last week. We were able to set up a nice temporary site. We need to find the right place for him and add permanent fencing he will not be able to get out of. I also plan on planting some yummy flowers and plants that he likes!

I started a compost bin hoping it will help my soon to be garden. It will be very small to start. I have been wanting some tomatoes, bell peppers, and hot peppers. I think those are the easiest to start with. I will add things later.

That has been it. Not much.

I can't believe it is February already. Last month passed by very quickly. We have been busy with school, biblestudies, fellowships, family gatherings and just living. We were greatly blessed during the Christmas season. We enjoyed our family get togethers. There were two. We were with my FIL on the day after Christmas and my MIL on Christmas. Everything went well and smoothly.
The new year came and went for us. We hung around with Grandma and waited for the ball to drop. We have already had some trials this year. Nothing "major", just irriating little things that if they are not handle right away they can get bigger. But God always sees us through. Hopefully we handle everything carefully with out rushing into it without thinkging it through. We need patience. :-)
Well since it is February we are going to get to know our two Presidents and how God worked in their lives. Madie is eager for this study. She has been enchanted with our presidents and their lives. I hope I can do them justice. LOL
I am making a big batch of beans to refry and can. Time to get off and tend to my beans.

Four Days Left!

I have been sitting here drinking tea, visiting friends and having a clothing dispute with my dd. lol I have some more baking to do. And then I am done. I will be enjoying the holiday with my family.
I have been looking forward to Christmas. I have been trying to instill in dd the gift that God gave us. (His son Jesus) I just want her to know that He loved us so much that He gave His only Son as a offering for everyone's sins. So we could be with Him for eternity. Isn't that just wonderful!
Well I really do hope you all have a wonderful Christmas! I hope it will be a safe and enjoyable holiday for all.

Monday, Monday

Oh, I am trying so hard to get back into my Home Management Routine (HMR). Ever since I got back from Idaho. I seem to have just lost my way in my home. I really dislike this feeling. So today I went back to my Home Management Binder and started with Monday chores.

Monday Chores basically consist of Bedding laundry and cleaning to stove top (the whole thing), the appliances on my counter tops and a special 15 min project. And really today was a full school day that I didn't get to my fifteen minuet project or my appliances. But I have been working hard on laundry.

I got the idea of a Home Management Binder from Candy over at Keeping the Home. She does a weekly blog about home management. It has helped me get organized since I am challenged in that way. lol.

This week I am needing to bake cookies for the exchange on thursday, try out a recipe for fudge covered marshmallows, and make little elf booties to put the fudgy treats in. So much fun!

Thanksgiving was nice. We spent it with my MIL and her hubby. It was the first one in years. I really cannot remember how long it has been.. I made desert~Apple Pie~it was my first one ever. And it turned out great. I also helped with her stuffing which has sausage and cranberries in it. Delicious! We had a great feast and good company.

We are now getting ready for the Christmas season. I have brought out some of my decorations. And the rest will be coming sometime this week. I hope it will be finished by then. We really do not have a lot of things to put out. The tree is the most obvious decoration. Then outside we have quite a bit to put up. I love this time of year. It is so much fun to decorate the house. I keep it homey and warm. I like that feeling. But I just add a little *bling* to it. lol

Now with all this hustle and bustle we need not forget why we celebrate CHRISTmas. This is the time to put the main focus on God and the present He sent to us. His son Jesus. At our house the focus is always on God and we will never forget His display of love for us, by His ultimate sacrifice. What love!!

Well, I hope to get some of my cookie recipes posted soon. I will be trying for 2 a week. I hope I get to it. lol I hope you all have a great evening.

Changing Again!

I am going to combine both my blogs together and have just one. So this will be a homesteading/homeschooling blog. And what ever else is on my mind. The name of this blog is the name of my future homestead. lol As soon as we can get a handle on things here, we will be looking for a few acres (out of state). We are trying our best to be a very small homestead here in the desert of Southern California.

I have been married 11yrs to my high shcool hunny and have one child. She is such a delight. I enjoy being a wife and a mother. I also enjoy sewing, scraping, quilting, and what every else may come my way. We are also a Christian household. That is very important for people to know. From time to time there will be refrences to God and verses, hyms and countless other forms of proclaimation that God does exist.
